More CoVID Funding for EMS Providers
In an October 1st, 2020 press release, the US DHHS announced that an additional 20 Billion dollars was being released for CARES Act Provider Relief Payments. The online application portal will open Monday, October 5th, 2020. This means more CoVID funding for EMS providers. Providers are being urged to apply early!!!
Phase one funding happened several months ago. Many EMS providers woke up one morning to find an unexpected deposit in their bank account. Providers didn’t have to apply for the funds, they just had to sign an attestation statement agreeing to some terms and conditions. But this came after they had been given the funds. Payments were calculated by DHHS using historical billing revenue from Medicare and Medicaid. The goal of phase one was to give providers a payment equal to 2.0% of their typical annual revenue.
Phase two payments required providers to apply for the funds. Many of you submitted an application but did not receive a payment. Information was a little hard to find at first but we learned later that round two actually prioritized providers who did not receive the 2% payment in the first round. If a provider received a round one payment equal to 2% of their Medicare revenue, they were moved to the back of the line and the funds ran out pretty quick.
Phase three payments will be in addition to the initial 2%. The first step toward receiving a phase three payment is to fill out the online application. The application portal opens on Monday, October 5th, 2020. We will provide the link below. Some of the rules are different this time though. Yes, round three will allow payments to providers who received a phase one or phasetwo payment. Even if you received CARES Act funding previously, you may still be eligible for a payment in round three. The government is expected to prioritize providers who did not get the 2% in round one or two, however, everyone who applies has a chance of receiving a payment during this round if they have experienced losses in revenue or additional expenses due to CoVID. Newer providers are also eligible for payment in this round.
The application has to be completed online. The portal is scheduled to open some time on Monday October 5th, 2020 and will close in just a few weeks. The government urging providers to apply early.
